Tuhure quits UML, joins Maoists
Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, June 14 - Popular singer J.B. Tuhure on Sunday defected from CPN-UML to the Unified CPN (Maoist).
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal welcomed Tuhure, who was member of the disciplinary committee in the UML, to his party at a special programme organised in the capital Sunday afternoon.
Tuhure said he decided to break away from the UML because the party did not stand for the civilian supremacy and unity among the Left parties. He said the recent UML decision to lead the government with the backing of Nepali Congress (NC) saddened him as the NC had played a foul game to topple the Man Mohan Adhikari-led government in 1995.Speaking at the programme, Dahal praised Tuhure's role in the different phases of revolution in the country and said his entry would boost the party's struggle to complete the revolution and establish civilian supremacy. “Nepal's history is at a serious juncture with a sharp struggle between two ideologies—one in favour of national sovereignty, independence, civilian supremacy, democracy, peace and constitution, while the other for military supremacy, autocracy, tyrants and brokers,” he said.Dahal also said a big faction of the UML was set to join the Maoist party within a week or two.Tuhure has been active in Left politics since 1971.
