Gurkha among four British soldiers killed
Tributes were paid yesterday to the four British soldiers killed on Thursday, one of the bloodiest days for UK forces in Afghanistan. They were named as Sergeant Ben Ross, Rifleman Adrian Sheldon, Corporal Sean Binnie and Corporal Kumar Pun.
The death of Kumar, from the 1 Royal Gurkha Rifles, coincides with the campaign led by actress Joanna Lumley over British residence rights for the Nepalese troops. The 31-year-old soldier was described by his company CO as "a true leader".
Lumley said: "The Gurkhas are at the centre of the army and are willing to give up their lives for this country."
Ross, 34, from 3 Royal Military Police, died in the same suicide attack in Gereshk that killed Kumar. Sheldon, 25, from 2 The Rifles, died in a separate explosion on the same day. All died in Helmand province.
