Kathmandu, May 26 (PTI) China today said its relationship with Nepal was a "good example" of treating each other as equals and of friendly coexistence between big and small countries.
In a congratulatory message to the newly-elected Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said China and Nepal are friendly neighbours since ancient times and their friendship has a long history.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 54 years ago, Nepal-China relations have remained healthy and stable, he said.
"The relationship is a good example of treating each other as equals, friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation between big and small countries," Jiabao said in the statement.
He said China attaches great importance to the friendship and looked forward to working with the new PM for growth of the neighbourly partnership. He also wished for peace, progress and prosperity for Nepal.
Earlier this month, China had dismissed as "sheer unfounded rumour" media reports that Beijing had interfered in Nepal's internal affairs and caused the recent political upheaval there. PTI
